The About page is where your visitors go to find the story behind you and your enterprise – it’s where you give a brief description and maybe a short history of your enterprise or yourself.
If your Home page is focussed on your products with no background information about you or your enterprise, the About page is the place for this sort of information.
If who you are personally is important to your enterprise, the About page may be the place to talk about yourself.
For example, if you’re an artist, who you are, and your individual style is probably very important to your enterprise. Whereas, if you are an electrician it need not be important for your enterprise who you are as an individual, as long as you’re a qualified electrician (although, it can be). This isn’t an absolute black or white division – it depends on how you want your enterprise to be perceived by potential customers.
An About page is not essential – many websites don’t have one – particularly if this sort of information is provided elsewhere in a website, such as on the Home page.
